Björn Leschny, co-chair of the Green Party’s Pulheim chapter, has been nominated as the Bundestag candidate for Electoral District 90 (Rhein-Erft-Kreis I), receiving 95% of the vote during the party’s assembly in Kerpen. In his acceptance speech, Leschny emphasized the urgency of addressing current political challenges, particularly criticizing the Free Democratic Party (FDP) for what he termed irresponsible behavior leading to the premature end of the governing coalition. He stressed the importance of upholding democracy, social and ecological responsibility, and finding solutions during challenging times.
Leschny’s professional background includes working in an international environment and studies in business informatics, business administration, international management, business psychology, and systemic coaching. He has served on five committees in Pulheim, covering areas such as environment, social affairs, education, and transportation. Additionally, he has been active as a climate policy spokesperson until the local climate advisory board was dissolved by the conservative majority. Since then, he has focused on professionalizing party work, particularly in social media and digitalization.
Christian Schubert, co-chair of the Green Party in the Rhein-Erft district, highlighted Leschny’s dedication to green values, especially his focus on climate protection and democracy. Schubert expressed confidence that Leschny’s professional and political experience makes him well-suited to advance Green Party policies in the Bundestag.
