On March 28, 2022, the Pulheim Greens gathered for their Stadtverband meeting to elect a new board for the next two years. It was a day of transition and reflection, marked by gratitude for the outgoing leadership and a clear commitment to tackling the pressing issues of our time.
Stepping down from their roles as board spokespersons, Anja von Marenholtz and Klaus Groth received heartfelt thanks for their tireless dedication and significant contributions. Both remain deeply involved in the party, continuing their commitment in other capacities. Klaus Groth will now serve as treasurer, bringing his expertise to the financial stewardship of the party.
The new leadership duo, Sarah Framke and I, Björn Leschny, take on the role of co-spokespersons. It’s an honor to step into this position, and I am deeply motivated to continue building on the successes of those who came before us. Together with an expanded team of five board members—Wolf Keßler, Barbara Kirschner, Christoph Kraeber, Renate Thiel, and Emilia Utz—we are ready to face the challenges ahead.
Reflecting on the past term, Klaus Groth highlighted the positive growth in membership and the active involvement in the state election campaign. These achievements underscore the increasing resonance of Green values in Pulheim and beyond.
However, the meeting wasn’t solely focused on local politics. The war in Ukraine and its devastating impact cast a shadow over the gathering, reminding us of the fragility of peace and democracy in Europe. The discussions were both heartfelt and urgent, emphasizing solidarity with Ukraine and the need to support those fleeing the violence.
In Pulheim, the response to the refugee crisis has been overwhelmingly compassionate. Many residents have opened their homes to individuals and families in need, showcasing the strength of our community’s generosity. Still, we recognized that more can be done. The meeting included a discussion on removing bureaucratic hurdles to better support refugees and considering the adoption of the “Seebrücke – schafft sichere Häfen” initiative, as other cities have done.
For me, this meeting was a poignant reminder of the intersection between local and global responsibilities. While we work to advance sustainability, inclusivity, and social justice in Pulheim, we must also stand in solidarity with those facing crises far beyond our borders. The new board is committed to fostering this balance, ensuring that our actions reflect both local priorities and global values.
As we look to the future, I am filled with hope and determination. With a strong team, engaged members, and a shared vision, I believe we can continue to make Pulheim a place where Green principles thrive—where compassion, progress, and inclusivity guide our actions. I look forward to working together with our community to create a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
