Recently, I traveled to Berlin for a series of international business meetings with international political stakeholders, a journey that not only offered an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue on future investments but as always also provided a chance to reflect on the importance of accessible and sustainable transportation in our daily lives. Traveling by ICE, Germany’s high-speed train, reminded me of how critical infrastructure like this is for connecting people and ideas across distances.
It’s not always about what you do, but also how you do it!
Berlin, as always, served as the perfect backdrop for these discussions. The city’s rich history and dynamic political environment underscore the importance of thoughtful, forward-looking policies. The meetings themselves were focused on some of the most pressing issues we face today, from climate action and social equity to strengthening democratic institutions. What struck me most was the passion and commitment shared by the participants, people from different walks of life all across Asia, united by a desire to create meaningful change.
Of course, no discussion is without its challenges. A recurring criticism was the slow pace of implementing policies that align with the urgent needs of our time, particularly when it comes to sustainability and international collaboration. It’s clear that while there are many great ideas and strategies on the table, turning them into action requires stronger political will, action from companies and a greater sense of urgency. The status quo simply isn’t enough when we’re facing crises that demand bold, decisive action.
At the same time, there is reason for hope. The conversations were filled with innovative ideas, collaborative energy, and a shared determination to make progress. Whether discussing renewable energy initiatives, improving access to education, or fostering inclusive communities, the solutions are there, we as industry and as politicians just need to work together to make them a reality.
Traveling by ICE itself was a reminder of the importance of sustainable infrastructure. The train was fast, efficient, and a clear example of how modern transportation can reduce environmental impact while connecting people across regions. However, there’s still room for improvement. For example, ticket prices can be prohibitive for many, and not all regions benefit equally from this level of connectivity. Public transport in Germany is by far to expensive! Expanding access to such systems should be a priority, ensuring that everyone can benefit from sustainable and efficient travel options.
As I returned from Berlin, I felt a renewed sense of purpose. These discussions reminded me of why I’m so passionate about engaging in politics and pushing for progress. It’s not just about addressing the challenges we face, it’s about seizing the opportunities to create a better, fairer, and more sustainable future.
To anyone reading this, I encourage you to stay engaged, have conversations, and never underestimate the power of dialogue. Whether it’s through political discussions, community actions, or simply sharing ideas, every step we take brings us closer to the future we want to build. Berlin reminded me of that, and I’m grateful for the chance to be part of such important international business dialogues. Together, we can drive the change we need globally.
